The Boat
Built in Stykkishólmur in the west of Iceland, NÚMI is a
traditional Icelandic oak fishing-boat which has been modified for
whale watching and sea angling without losing its charm. Sailing
with NÚMI is not like looking at nature through glass - it is a
real adventure out in the elements where it seems you can almost
touch the water. Nevertheless, the boat satisfies strict safety
requirements and features a sheltered seating area and a cosy cabin
below decks. NÚMI is licensed to accommodate up to 50 people.
Sailing with NÚMI is an experience out of the ordinary, enjoying
nature and the sea.
Over 30 years of experience
The captain and owner, Örn Stefánsson, is happy to welcome guests
onto the bridge to see how NÚMI is sailed. Örn has been a seaman
for over 30 years; his experience includes everything from small
boats to the largest Icelandic trawlers. Growing up in a small
fishing village on the east coast of Iceland, he went to sea at an
early age and has captained fishing boats all over the North
Atlantic, from the Barents Sea to Newfoundland. Sjósigling is a
family owned and operated company.
